Football: So Cal Sidelines Players of the Week (11/21/17)

Austin Maciel has been delivering for Rio Mesa of Oxnard all season and he came through with a stellar night last Friday to get the Spartans into the CIF-SS semifinals for the first time in 12 years.

The 6-foot, 215-pound senior completed 16 of 20 passes for 385 yards and seven TDs to lead the Spartans to a 63-28 victory over Kaiser of Fontana in the CIF-SS Division 8 quarterfinals. Maciel’s seven TD passes tied a Ventura County record.

Maciel helped Rio Mesa improve to 12-0 heading into the semifinals at Antelope Valley of Lancaster on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

Maciel’s efforts earned him the So Cal Sidelines’ Los Angeles Player of the Week and So Cal Player of the Week honors.

Akili Arnold rushed for 313 yards and five TDs on 22 carries in Mission Viejo’s 48-35 triumph over Orange Lutheran in the CIF-SS Division 1 quarterfinals.


SAN DIEGO PLAYER OF THE WEEK


Deontae McKinney rushed for 275 yards and four TDs on 29 carries to help Steele Canyon of Spring Valley knock off Bishop’s of La Jolla, 61-52, in the CIF-SDS Division II quarterfinals.
