CIF-LA CITY SECTION PLAYOFF BREAKDOWN


OPEN DIVISION

PLAYOFF DATES: Quarterfinals on Nov. 17, Semifinals on Nov. 24 and Finals on Dec. 2 at 7 p.m. El Camino College.

SEEDED TEAMS: 1. Narbonne of Harbor City; 2. Crenshaw of Los Angeles; 3. Carson; amd 4. Fairfax of Los Angeles.

SLEEPER: Venice of Los Angeles. The Gondiliers held their own in losses to Newbury Park, 52-42, and Fairfax, 20-14, and finished second behind Fairfax in the Western League. QB Dion Moore has thrown for 1,822 yards and 20 TDs with just four interceptions and he has eight rushing TDs, giving Venice a chance against Carson.

SEMIFINALS: Narbonne over Birmingham of Lake Balboa and Crenshaw over Carson.

FINALS: Narbonne over Crenshaw.

NOTES: With Rutgers-committed QB Jalen Chatman leading the offense and USC-committed OLB Raymond Scott leading the defense, Narbonne is the overwhelming favorite to win a fourth consecutive CIF-LACS title. … Carson is averaging 35.9 points per game. … Solomon Hassen is Crenshaw’s leading rusher and a big threat on punt returns. … Keivon Johnwell and Anthony Bealer have four interceptions apiece for Fairfax. …


DIVISION I

PLAYOFF DATES: First Round on Nov. 9, Quarterfinals on Nov. 17, Semifinals on Nov. 24 and Finals on Dec. 1 at at 7 p.m. at El Camino College.

SEEDED TEAMS: 1. San Fernando; 2. South Gate; 3. Palisades of Pacific Palisades; and 4. Garfield of Los Angeles.

SLEEPER: Dorsey of Los Angeles. The Dons played a rugged nonleague schedule, which included losses to Calabasas, Serra of Gardena, St. John Bosco of Bellflower and Lincoln of San Diego, but if RB Charles Mincy Jr. can get hot, Dorsey could make a second consecutive trip to the finals.

SEMIFINALS: San Fernando over El Camino Real of Woodland Hills and Dorsey over South Gate.

FINALS: San Fernando over Dorsey.

NOTES: San Fernando just barely missed making the Open Division bracket, so it enters the Division I playoffs as the top seed, and for good reason. The Tigers, who are averaging 311.8 rushing yards per game, are led by a pair of 1,000-yard rushers with Kyle Bryant (1,208 yards, 14 TDs) and Trevor Gill (1,002 yards, 12 TDs). … South Gate features QB Ernie Arcia, who leads CIF-LACS with 2,626 passing yards and 35 TDs, and Edward Norton, who has rushed for 1,255 yards and 21 TDs. … Palisades relies on RB/OLB Dakotah Hamilton, who has rushed for 1,125 yards and eight TDs.


DIVISION II

PLAYOFF DATES: First Round on Nov. 9, Quarterfinals on Nov. 17, Semifinals on Nov. 24 and Finals on Dec. 2 at 3 p.m. at El Camino College.

SEEDED TEAMS: 1. Eagle Rock of Los Angeles; 2. Huntington Park; 3. Reseda; and 4. Cleveland of Reseda.

SLEEPER: Bell. The Eagles are led by dual-threat QB Daniel Leal, who has passed for 1,556 yards and 11 TDs and rushed for 1,227 yards and 14 TDs.

SEMIFINALS: Eagle Rock over Cleveland and Huntington Park over Reseda.

FINALS: Eagle Rock over Huntington Park.

NOTES: Eagle Rock’s offense features QB Davy Stone, who has passed for 1,972 yards and 21 TDs, and four receivers with at least 30 receptions. … Bey’Jon “Bam Bam” Lee has rushed for 1,497 yards and 10 TDs and DE Ignacio Sanchez has 13.0 sacks for Huntington Park. … DE Alonzo Gray-Hall of Reseda leads the CIF-LACS with 14.5 sacks. … Cleveland has a solid passing duo with QB Takashi Drayton (108.5 QB rating and 16 TDs) and WR Isiah Adams (40 rec., 670 yards, 8 TDs). …


DIVISION III

PLAYOFF DATES: First Round on Nov. 9, Quarterfinals on Nov. 17, Semifinals on Nov. 24 and Finals on Dec. 2 at 11 a.m. at El Camino College.

SEEDED TEAMS: 1. Santee of Los Angeles; 2. Marshall of Los Angeles; 3. Locke of Los Angeles; and 4. Torres of Los Angeles.

SLEEPER: Wilson of Los Angeles. With a 26-7 win over Torres, the Mules have shown they are capable of pulling off upsets in Division III.

SEMIFINALS: Santee over Torres and Marshall over Locke.

FINALS: Santee over Marshall.

NOTES: Santee is averaging 370.5 rushing yards per game with Joseph Todd (1,623 yards, 10 TDs) and Brian Escamilla (1,217 yards, 21 TDs) leading the way. Adam McKinney has six interceptions, which is tied for the lead in the CIF-LACS, for the Falcons. … Daniel Soto has thrown for 1,886 yards and 23 TDs and Christopher Pereda has 11.0 sacks for Marshall. … Locke is averaging 32.3 points per game. … Tiquan Gilmore of Torres leads the -CIF-LACS with 2,117 rushing yards and 30 TDs. Gilmore has rushed for 5,383 yards and 63 TDs in the past two seasons. …
