Laguna Beach’s Jackie Cenan has built a reputation as one of the top shooters in the ounty.

She can also hit the boards pretty well too.

Cenan scored 26 points in a 55-29 win over Costa Mesa nd she had 23 points in a 65-28 victory over Estancia to help the Breakers crack The OC Sidelines Top 20 rankings at No. 18. For that, Cenan is the OC Sidelines Girls Basketball Player of the Week.

“Jackie has been solid in all aspects of her game and demonstrated strong senior leadership during this first part of league play,” Laguna Beach coach Mark Lewis said. “I’m pleased with how well she is playing within herself and within the framework of what we do as a team. Because of that, she and the team are thriving.”

Most memorable moment of your athletic career? The most memorable moment of my career so far is probably beating Western in the Oxford Academy (Tournament) championship my freshman year. This was the first tournament our program had ever won!

What was the funniest/strangest thing you ever witnessed on the basketball court? My team has this ongoing joke that Alex Lewis can trip people with her mind, because many of my teammates have spontaneously face-planted around Alex. These spontaneous face-plants in the middle of practices and games are the funniest/strangest moments I’ve witnessed on the basketball court.

Cenan_collageOpposing player you respect the most? (Estancia’s) Maya Van Den Heever is the opposing player I respect the most. Besides playing her every year in league, I got accustomed to Maya’s game by playing alongside her on OC Elite during club season. Her fearless playing style and mental toughness makes her a great teammate and a respectable opponent.

Who is the most underrated player on your team? The most underrated player on my team is Nicole Davidson. Although she doesn’t get the spotlight shone on her very often, she is an essential part of our team. Without her leadership and crucial ball handling, our team would not enjoy as much success.

Favorite coach: (Breakers coach) Mark Lewis is my favorite coach. He took me under his wing in seventh grade and has mentored me ever since. His passion for the game inspires me and my teammates every day.

Favorite teacher: Mrs. (Valorie) Quigley is my favorite teacher, because she somehow makes my AP Calculus class fun.

Favorite movie ever: My favorite movie is Avatar.

Favorite song ever: Iris by The Goo Goo Dolls, because it never gets old.

Favorite TV show ever: I can’t decide :/

Any final pearls of wisdom? “Hyper-focus” -Mark Lewis
