Girls Hoops: So Cal Regional Roundup (3/12/16)

The CIF So Cal Regional Roundup for Saturday, March 12.

No. 1 Brea Olinda 61, Mission Alemany 46: Arizona State-bound Reili Richardson scored 32 points, Jasmine Rachal had 17 points and Tyiona Watkins threw in 12 points as the Ladycats defeated Alemany in Division 1. Brea Olinda (26-4) heads to Troy in a battle of the two top ranked teams in Orange County. Genessa Bedoya scored 15 points and Cacie Smith had nine points for the Warriors (24-11).

No. 2 Troy 72, Santa Barbara 54: Barbara Sitanggan scored 19 points and Naomi Hunt had 17 points for the Warriors (26-6) in the Division 1 win over Santa Barbara. Amber Melgoza scored 31 points and Demi Jimenez had 11 points for the Dons (27-5).

No. 3 Mater Dei 69, Crescenta Valley 32: UCLA-bound Ally Rosenblum scored 16 points and Jayda Adams had 15 points for the Monarchs in a Division 2 victory over Crescenta Valley. Mater Dei (26-5) hosts Fairmont Prep on Tuesday.

“It was a great team win and we all played with a lot of energy,” Rosenblum said. “Everyone contributed and really wanted to win! For the game against Fairmont, we need to come out with the same energy that we had tonight and play solid defense.”

Josie Brock scored 12 points and Alisa Shinn added eight points for the Falcons (25-10).

No. 4 Orange Lutheran 38, Agoura 23: Gloria Bates scored 13 points and Kimi Scudday and Taelor Griffin each had seven points as the Lancers defeated Agoura in Division 3. The Lancers (27-6) set a team record for most wins in a season and they will host Alhambra Mark Keppel in the semifinals. Emily Cangelosi scored 10 points and Jazmin Benn had seven points for the Chargers (20-12).

“Jessi Matson is central to our success at Orange Lutheran, one of the greatest guards and shooters I’ve ever played with.” Bates said.

No. 5 Fairmont Prep 58, Ventura 39: Tristen Rollon scored 17 points and Izzy Om had nine points for the Huskies (21-8) in a Division 1 win over Ventura.

“Ventura is a very well-coached team,” Rollon said. “We gave it our all in that game, worked hard on defense and executed very well on offense. We wanted to play Mater Dei and that’s who we get Tuesday. We just got to play with the same intensity.”

Aubrey Knight scored 15 points and Barbara Rangel had nine points for the Cougars (23-10).

Norco 53, No. 6 Sonora 44: Marissa Dunn scored 11 points and Angela Rodriguez had 10 points for the Raiders in the loss to Norco in Division 3. Sonora ends the season at 28-5. Lindsay Kilgore scored nine points for Norco (25-9), which takes on Lake Elsinore Lakeside.

La Canada 57, No. 13 Corona del Mar 39: Sarah Kurdoghlian scored 18 points and her younger sister, Kristina Kurdoghlian, added 12 points as the Spartans defeated Corona del Mar for the second time in less than a month. La Canada (28-4) takes on Santa Fe Springs St. Paul in the Division 4 semifinals. Natalia Bruening scored 18 points, while Kat Hess and Kelly Tam had seven points apiece for the Sea Kings (24-8).

San Luis Obispo Mission Prep 40, No. 16 Oxford Academy 22: Freshman Austyn Masuno scored 13 points for the Patriots in the Division 5 loss to Mission Prep. Jacqueline San Jule scored 11 points for the Royals (23-9), who take on West Hills Chaminade. Oxford Academy finished its best season in school history at 25-5.
