Girls Track and Field Coach of the Year: Nathan Howard (Los Alamitos)

Eichelberger’s Take: Under the steady and experienced guidance of Howard, the Griffins enjoyed the most accomplished season in the history of the program. Los Alamitos won its’ first Orange County Championships team title and took home the Sunset League Title. The Griffins tied for fifth place in Division 1 at the CIF-SS Divisional Finals and qualified a county-best seven athletes to both the CIF-SS Masters Meet and the CIF State Championships. Howard’s team also impacted the county’s all-time record book. He oversaw three individuals: senior Sara Limp (100, 200); junior Ashley Willingham (400), and senior Katie Izzo (3,200), along with both the 400 and 1,600 relay teams move into the top 7 or higher on the county’s all-time best performances list in their respective events. The Griffins’ 1,600m sprint medley relay team also set the county’s all-time record of 3:58.63 at the Arcadia Invitational, which was the state’s fastest time this season and the fifth fastest time in the country.
