Manny’s World: Round 1 Playoff Picks (11/8/17)

Ladies and gentlemen, here are my picks for the first round of the football playoffs:


Last Week’s Record: 5-0

Current Record: 40-15

Norco (6-4) vs. Los Alamitos (7-3) at Cerritos College, Friday, 7:30 p.m. (Live on Fox Sports West’s Prep Zone)

Manny’s Pick: Norco

No one can stop Oregon-committed RB Travis Dye, who rushed for 347 yards and scored seven TDs last week, and he should lead the Cougars past the Sunset League champions. Norco heads to the quarterfinals of the Division 2 playoffs.

Twentynine Palms (7-3) at Apple Valley (10-0), Friday, 7 p.m.

Manny’s Pick: Apple Valley

The top-seeded Sun Devils face a tough Twentynine Palms squad, but DB Seth Baker should help Apple Valley advance to the Division 10 quarterfinals.

Shadow Hills (8-2) of Indio at Valley View (7-3) of Moreno Valley, Friday, 7 p.m.

Manny’s Pick: Valley View

RB Justin Keeling should run all over Shadow Hills and lead Valley View to the quarterfinals in Division 10.

Murrieta Mesa (7-3) of Murrieta at Colony (9-1) of Ontario, Friday, 7:30 p.m.

Manny’s Pick: Murrieta Mesa

QB Jeff Miller will use the tough experience from the Southwestern League and take the road victory over the Mt. Baldy League champs, advancing in the Division 4 playoffs.

Ramona (6-4) of Riverside at Coachella Valley (8-2) of Thermal, Friday, 7:30 p.m.

Manny’s Pick: Coachella Valley

The Arabs will take their momentum from winning the DeAnza League title and beat Ramona with help from QB Armando Deniz. Coachella Valley advances to the quarterfinals of the Division 11 playoffs.


Last Week’s Record: 5-0

Current Record: 39-16

Los Altos (7-3) of Hacienda Heights at Moorpark (8-2), Friday, 7:30 p.m.

Manny’s Pick: Moorpark

QB Billy Westerling will lead the Musketeers to a close win over a Los Altos squad that just finished playing in a tough Hacienda League. Moorpark takes the win and advances to the Division 5 quarterfinals.

Tustin (8-2) vs. Burbank (8-2) @ Burroughs of Burbank, Friday, 7:30 p.m.

Manny’s Pick: Burbank

The Tillers hobbled their way into the playoffs after fighting for their playoffs lives in a win over Cypress. DE Anthony Lira should stop RB KC Carr III and send the Bulldogs to the next round in D-7.

Norwalk (7-3) vs. St. Anthony (7-3) of Long Beach @ Clark Field of Long Beach, Friday, 7:30 p.m.

Manny’s Pick: St. Anthony

The defending CIF state finalists will advance with LB Noah Nieto handling the defense. The Saints will take care of Norwalk.

View Park of Los Angeles (6-4) at South East of South Gate (3-7), Thursday, 7 p.m.

Manny’s Pick: View Park

The Knights will take their tough Coliseum League experience and handle South East. View Park advances to the quarterfinals.

Jefferson of Los Angeles (7-3) at Arleta (7-3), Thursday, 2 p.m.

Manny’s Pick: Arleta

RB EJ Cable will lead the Mustangs to a close victory over Jefferson and into quarterfinals of the CIF-LACS D-I playoffs.


Last Week’s Record: 4-1

Current Record: 44-11

No. 14 Servite (6-4) of Anaheim at No. 3 Mission Viejo (10-0), Friday, 7:30 p.m.

Manny’s Pick: Mission Viejo

The Friars aren’t taking a break after the Trinity League as they face Mission Viejo. UCLA-commit DB Olaijah Griffin should lead the Diablos to victory and will relax ya mind.

No. 8 Santa Margarita (7-3) of Rancho Santa Margarita at Murrieta Valley (8-2), Friday, 7:30 p.m. (Live on Fox Sports West’s Prep Zone)

Manny’s Pick: Santa Margarita

The Eagles bring their Trinity League experience to the playoffs and RB Chad Magyar should lead Santa Margarita over a heavy passing Murrieta Valley squad.

Sunny Hills of Fullerton (8-2) at Garden Grove (6-3),Thursday, 7 p.m.

Manny’s Pick: Sunny Hills

RB Alex Jung has his work cut out for him against the Garden Grove League champs, but Sunny Hills should lead the Lancers to victory.

Cypress (7-3) at Agoura (6-4), Friday, 7:30 p.m.

Manny’s Pick: Cypress

The Centurions face the Canyon League champs, but the Empire League wasn’t a cake walk. WR Dominique Thompson should lead Cypress to victory over Agoura.

Aliso Niguel (6-4) of Aliso Viejo vs. Woodbridge (7-3) of Irvine @ University of Irvine, Friday, 7 p.m.

Manny’s Pick: Woodbridge

QB Nick Nash can throw and run and the Warriors will follow him  to a win over Aliso Niguel.


Last Week’s Record: 2-3

Current Record: 32-23

Mt. Carmel of San Diego (3-7) at Cathedral Catholic of San Diego (4-6), Friday, 7 p.m.

Manny’s Pick: Cathedral Catholic

The Dons will be looking to reload in the playoffs. RB Ryan Kilpatrick will help the Dons defeat Mt. Carmel and advance to the quarterfinals.

Poway (3-7) at Olympian of Chula Vista (5-5), Friday, 7 p.m.

Manny’s Pick: Olympian

The Eagles will need a big game from QB Nico Mendoza, who should have enough to lead Olympian over Poway to keep the season alive.

West Hills of Santee (6-4) at Granite Hills of El Cajon (8-2), Friday, 7 p.m.

Manny’s Pick: Granite Hills

WR Keyvon Martin should add another win for Granite Hills to move a step closer to the finals.

Mount Miguel of Spring Valley (4-6) at Escondido (4-6), 7 p.m.

Manny’s Pick: Escondido

This one will be a close, but I am going with the Cougars as they advance in D-III.

Clairemont of San Diego (5-5) at La Jolla Country Day (4-5), Friday, 7 p.m.

Manny’s Pick: La Jolla Country Day

The Torreys hope to get some quarterback magic from EJ Kreutzman and stay alive for a chance to repeat as CIF-SDS champions. LJCD for the win.
