Bill Conroy’s Beverly Bandits are known for their team speed and running wild on the bases.

Valparaiso-bound outfielder Jaina Westphal has coined a term to describe the Bandits, who won both their pool-play games at the So Cal A’s Invitational on Friday at Harvard Park in Irvine.

“It’s very organized chaos,” Westphal said. “It’s very organized and we know what we are doing and it’s very chaotic for the other team. They don’t know where we’re going and what we’re doing.”

The So Cal A’s Invitational, which features 19 PGF High School All-Americans and five Gatorade State Players of the Year, is the first big tournament of the summer season and the first time most of these top teams have been together since the recently concluded high school season. The Bandits did run themselves out of a few innings because of their aggressiveness, but they also put pressure on defenses, stole a bunch of bases, took extra bases and displayed some power as well.

Westphal executed a squeeze, singled, doubled and drove in two runs in two runs in the Bandits 7-1 win over Lady Lightning Gold-Corn. Northwestern-committed southpaw Sydney Supple had a strong outing to pick up the win over LLG.

DePaul-bound Gabby O’Riley and Purdue-bound Rylee Platusic belted two-run homers for the Bandits in a 6-1 victory over the So Cal Choppers in a game earlier in the day

“Our team has a great mix of speed and power,” Supple said, “so we have the girls that are going to get on and push you to make a great throw and then we have the bats behind you to drive them in.”
