Softball: So Cal Players of the Week (3/6/18)

So Cal Sidelines takes a look at the top performances from last week.


SO CAL PLAYER OF THE WEEK


Amaiyah Aponte, King of Riverside, 2020, P

The right-hander went 3-0, allowing one earned run and striking out 20 in 21.5 innings to lead King to the Stu Penter Classic championship. She outdueled Texas-bound Shea O’Leary to lift the Wolves over Valencia of Magic Mountain in the semifinals, then went the distance with eight strikeouts to beat Yucaipa, 8-2, in the finals. Aponte was also selected the tournament’s MVP.


INLAND EMPIRE PLAYER OF THE WEEK


Kelci Hill, Murrieta Mesa, 2019, OF

The Middle Tennessee State commit went 12 of 20 with four doubles, a triple, four runs and seven RBI to help the Rams go 3-2 and take fourth place at the Stu Penter Classic.


LOS ANGELES PLAYER OF THE WEEK


Chase Knapp, Newbury Park, 2019, OF

The junior center fielder went 6 for 6 with two home runs, four runs and four RBI tohelp the Panthers sweep Pacifica of Oxnard, 8-1 and 8-1, in a nonleague doubleheader.


ORANGE COUNTY PLAYER OF THE WEEK


Ciara Briggs, Orange Lutheran, 2019, OF

The Louisiana State commit kicked off her 2018 campaign by going 8 for 16 with three home runs, two doubles, seven runs and eight RBI as the Lancers wnet 4-1 to take third place at the Dana Housley Memorial Tournament.


SAN DIEGO PLAYER OF THE WEEK


Payton Tidd, San Marcos, 2018, P

The Notre Dame signee went 3-0 with a 1.27 ERA, allowing one run, eight hits and striking out 27 in 11 innings and she went 3 for 9 at the plate with two doubles a homer and six RBI to help the Knights pick up a nonleague win over La Costa Canyon of Carlsbad, 11-1, and victories over Eastlake of Chula Vista, 3-0, and Huntington Beach, 5-4, at the Best of the West Tournament.
