Softball: So Cal Roundup (4/16/18) Huskies Roll In Baseline

The So Cal Roundup for Monday, April 16.

Chino Hills, which had a fourth-place finish at the Michelle Carew Classic, recorded a 7-1 victory over Upland to ramin undefeated in the Baseline League on Monday at Upland High.

DePaul-commit Brooke Johnson continued her hot hitting, going 4 for 5 with two doubles, a home run and five RBI, Long Island-bound Camryn Lyman went 3 for 5 and Maryland-committed freshman Kendall Mangel threw a six-hitter with three strikeouts to lead the Huskies (20-4, 3-0), ranked No. 2 in the IE and No. 9 in So Cal by So Cal Sidelines, to the victory over the Scots (12-4-1, 2-1), ranked No. 5 in the IE and No. 20 in So Cal.

“Any win in this league on the road is huge,” Chino Hills coach Mike Southworth said. “The team needs to stay level-headed and continue their work ethic.”

Long Island-bound Alyssa Martinez drove in a run for the the Huskies with a perfectly-executed squeeze play.

“I think that moving forward we need to maintain playing for each other and always picking up the next player … we can also get better individually and we all know what it is that needs to clean up but overall it was a great team win,” Martinez said. “Everybody did a job and cheered one another on.”

In the Avocado-West North County League:

Carlsbad 15, Canyon Crest Academy of San Diego 0: Alyssa Avalos went 1 for 3 with a double, a run and two RBI, Ashley Bowers went 3 for 3 with a runand two RBI, Marisa Hensch went 2 for 3 with a run and three RBI, Maele Hensch went 1 for 3 with two RBI and Zoe Nolte went 2 for 4 with a run and two RBI for the Lancers (7-3-1), ranked No. 7 in San Diego.

In the Baseline League:

Los Osos of Rancho Cucamonga 8, St. Lucy’s of Glendora 3: Aubrie Olson went 2 for 3 with a homer, two runs and two RBI as the Grizzlies (7-7, 2-1) knocked off the Regents (8-11, 0-3), ranked No. 20 in LA.

Etiwanda 3, Rancho Cucamonga 2: Madisyn Estorga drove in Nya Johnson with a grounder to short, Annalisa Panuco threw a seven-hitter and the Eagles (16-5, 1-2), ranked No. 10 in the IE, held off the Cougars (10-5, 1-2).

In the Coastal Canyon League:

Camarillo 18, Oak Park 2

In the Empire League:

Pacifica of Garden Grove 12, Western of Anaheim 0: Eliza Sandoval and Colorado State-commit Julia Cabral combined on a perfect game, Notre Dame-commit Carli Kloss went 2 for 2, Oregon-commit Alyssa Britowent 2 for 2 with two doubles and Alani Nguyen went 2 for 3 for the Mariners (12-7, 1-1), ranked No. 6 in the OC and No. 15 in So Cal.

In the Orange Coast League:

Godinez of Santa Ana 10, Calvary Chapel of Santa Ana 4: Airilin Ramirez threw a six-hitter with five strikeouts, Nebraska-commit Keana Pola went 3 for 4 with an RBI, Iyari Ramirez went 2 for 4 with a homer and three RBI, and Sami Villanueva went 2 for 4 with two doubles andan RBI for the Grizzlies (12=4, 3-0).

In nonleague:

Mission Hills of San Marcos 9, Clairemont of San Diego 0: Bri Esposito doubled and drove in three runs, Washington-bound Ari Quinones homered and Autumn Poppett went 2 for 2 with a double, a run and two RBI to lift the Grizzlies (13-6), ranked No. 10 in San Diego, over the Chieftains (11-3), ranked No. 5 in San Diego.

Santana of Santee 2, Otay Ranch of Chula Vista 1: Ashley Madrigal’s walk-off, inside-the-park homer in the bottom of the ninth gave the Sultans (15-3), ranked No. 8 in San Diego, the win over the Mustangs (7-8-1).

Rancho Buena Vista of Vista 6, Bonita Vista of Chula Vista 4: Arizona-commit Paige Dimler went 3 for 3 with two homers and three RBI for the Longhorns (9-6), ranked No. 14 in San Diego, in the win over the Barons (8-5-2), ranked No. 17 in San Diego.

Grossmont of El Cajon 4, Helix of La Mesa 0: K Contreras went 2 for 4 with a homer and Samria Roope pitched a five-hitter with four strikeouts to lead the Foothillers (13-7), ranked No. 16 in San Diego, past the Scotties (9-8).
