Softball: So Cal Roundup (4/30/18) Rams End La Canada’s League Winning Streak

The So Cal Roundup for Monday, April 30.


In the Rio Hondo League:


Temple City 3, La Canada 1: Idaho State-bound Amber Arreola hit a three-run bomb in the sixth and Cal State Fullerton-commit Elliana Zellian threw a four-hitter with six strikeouts as the Rams (14-6, 8-1) avenged their lone league loss and ended the Spartans’ 32-game league winning streak. La Canada dropped to 17-4-1 overall and 10-1 in league.


In the Ambassador League:


Linfield Christian of Temecula 4, Aquinas of San Bernardino 3: Kiki McGrath went 2 for 2 with two RBI and Cal-bound Alex Perez threw a four-hitter with nine strikeouts as the Lions (15-5, 8-2) moved into a tie for second place with the Falcons(17-4, 8-2), one game behind Ontario Christian (15-4, 9-1).


In the Baseline League:


Upland 3, St. Lucy’s of Glendora 2: Marisa Caballero’s grounder to second was misplayed, allowing Madison Souza and Summer Garcia to score in the top of the seventh and the Scots (14-6-1, 4-3), ranked No. 7 in the IE, pulled out the win over the Regents (9-14-1, 1-6). Freshman Sarah Haendiges allowed seven hits, two runs and three walks, while striking out three to pick up the complete game win for Upland.

Chino Hills 8, Etiwanda 5: Long Island-bound Alyssa Martinez went 2 for 5 with a homer and three RBI to lead the Huskies (24-4, 7-0), ranked No. 2 in the IE and No. 9 in So Cal, past the Eagles (19-6, 4-3), ranked No. 6 in the IE.


In the Citrus Belt League:


Yucaipa 6, Redlands East Valley 4: Annessa Arredondo went 3 for 3 with two doubles, two runs and two RBI, Stanford-commit Sydnee Huff went 2 for 4 with two runs and Esperanza Coe blasted a two-run homer and got the complete game win as the Thunderbirds (19-6, 9-1), ranked No. 8 in the IE, held on for the win over the Wildcats (16-7, 8-2), ranked No. 10 in the IE, to take sole possession of first place in league.


In the East Valley League:


Poly of Sun Valley 25, Monroe of North Hills 0: Vivian Little tossed a no-hitter with 14 strikeouts in five innings and Natalie Topete went 2 for 5 with a grand slam and five RBI for the Parrots (22-7, 10-1).

Chavez of San Fernando 7, Arleta 2: Sunneraye Vazquez went 2 for 3 with two runs and three RBI, Arianna Martinez went 4 for 4 with three runs and an RBI, Amanda Alvarez went 3 for 4 and Aliciana Osoria went 2 for 4 with two RBI for the Eagles (13-16, 10-2).


In the Marine League:


Carson 5, San Pedro 2: Leilani Pulemau went 2 for 4 with a solo blast and Ashley Wies went 2 for 4 with a two-run shot to help the Colts (21-7, 9-0), ranked No. 17 in LA, defeat the Pirates (16-14-1, 6-3).

Banning of Wilmington 10, Narbonne of Harbor City 0: Boise State-commit Angelina Devoe went 2 for 2 with two doubles, three runs and two RBI and tossed a one-hitter with 11 strikeouts in five innings for the Pilots (19-9-1, 7-2).


In the Valley Mission League:


San Fernando 11, Reseda 0


In the West Valley League:


Kennedy of Granada Hills 13, Van Nuys 0


In the North County Tournament:


Rancho Buena Vista of Vista 8: Westview of San Diego 6: Arizona-commit Paige Dimler had an RBI double, UMass Amherst-bound Dani Ellis had an RBI single and Kendall Rosas scored on an error during a three-run rally in the bottom of the seventh to give the Longhorns (14-8), ranked No. 13 in San Diego, the win.


In the Valley Classic:


Oaks Christian of Westlake Village 5, Birmingham of Lake Balboa 0

Sierra Canyon of Chatsworth 5, Cleveland of Reseda 2: Sarah Schneider went 4 for 4 with a double, a triple, two runs and an RBI for the Trailblazers (12-5).


In nonleague games:


Granite Hills of El Cajon 5, Point Loma of San Diego 3: Cal State Fullerton-commit Staci Chambers went 2 for 3 with a homer and two RBI and USD-commit Catie Dobbs allowed four hits, one earned run and struck out five to get the complete game win for the Eagles (20-6), ranked No. 4 in San Diego.

Grossmont of El Cajon 7, Otay Ranch of Chula Vista 0: Samaria Roope pitched a two-hit shutout with seven strikeouts and went 3 for 4 with a double and two RBI for the Foothillers (19-8), ranked No. 10 in San Diego.

Olympian of Chula Vista 1, High Tech of San Diego 0: Reina Serrano threw five scoreless innings with two strikeouts for the win, Utah-bound Sydney Sandez threw two scoreless innings with three strikeouts to get the save and Bree Simmons homered in the fourth to lift the Eagles (15-9), ranked No. 11 in San Diego.

Ramona 12, Mission Hills of San Marcos 5: Cal State Fullerton-commit Alexa Neil went 3 for 4 with a double, a triple, three runs and two RBI, Elle Roberts went 3 for 4 with a double and an RBI, Seneca Curo went 2 for 3 with a homer and three RBI and Missy Miller went 2 for 3 with two runs and two RBI as the Bulldogs (10-12-1) knocked off the Grizzlies (16-11), ranked No. 5 in San Diego.

Saugus 6, Louisville of Woodland Hills 2: UC Davis-commit Libbie McMahan blasted a three-run homer during a five-run rally in the bottom of the second for the Centurions (15-7), ranked No. 14 in LA.
