Softball: So Cal Roundup (5/15/18) San Pedro, Chatsworth Headed to LA City Finals

Briana Velazquez used her stick and her arm to lead eighth-seeded San Pedro to an 8-4 win over fourth-seeded Poly of Sun Valley in the semifinals of the CIF-LACS Open Division playoffs on Tuesday at Poly High.

The sophomore went 2 for 4 with a double, a homer and three RBI and she allowed 10 hits, one earned run and struck out eight to get the complete game victory for the Pirates (19-14-1), who advance to the Open Division finals for the second straight season. The Parrots finished with a record of 24-8.


San Pedro will try to win a second consecutive Open Division championship when it faces second-seeded Chatsworth (21-5) on Saturday at 4:15 p.m. at Cal State Dominguez Hills.

The Chancellors advanced to the finals for the first time since winning the Division I crown in 2015 with a 4-2 semifinal victory over El Camino Real of Woodland Hills.

West Texas A&M-bound Ruby Salzman belted a solo homer and Wisconsin-commit Ava Justman went 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI and she threw a complete game with six strikeouts to lead the Chancellors over the Conquistadors (16-12).

Escondido 12, Del Norte of San Diego 4: Hannah Ice went 2 for 5 with a double and four RBI, Kayla Carter homered and drove in two runs and Xzarria Simmons went 4 for 4 with a double, a run and an RBI for the Cougars (15-12).

Rancho Bernardo of San Diego 2, West Hills of Santee 0: Boston University-commit Allison Boaz hit a walk-off two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth and struck out eight in nine innings to get the complete game win for the Broncos (16-11).

Ramona 4, Torrey Pines of San Diego 2: UCLA-commit Seneca Curo went 2 for 4 with a homer and three RBI to power the Bulldogs (16-12-1).



University City of San Diego 12, Valhalla of El Cajon 2: Alexi Wyckoff went 2 for 4 with a double, a homer, two runs and six RBI for the Centurions (15-12).

Olympian of Chula Vista 1, Our Lady of Peace of San Diego 0: Utah-bound Sydney Sandez tossed a three-hitter with 13 strikeouts and she knocked in the lone run for the Eagles (19-10).

San Pasqual of Escondido 9, Westview of San Diego 1: Olivia Burroughs and Autumn Crawford homered for the Golden Eagles (15-10).

Imperial 5, Christian of El Cajon 3: Cassandra Valle hit a solo homer for the Tigers (13-11-1).
