Softball: Furious Action At Day 2 of PGF 14U Nationals (8/1/18)

The PGF 14U Premier Nationals featured some furious action as teams battled to stay in the winner’s bracket of the double elimination tournament on Wednesday at Huntington Beach Sports Complex.

Sorcerer-Schroll scored a run on an errant throw in the bottom of the eighth to pull out a walk-off win over Impact Gold National in the second round of the winner’s bracket.

Haley Painter popped out to shallow center field, Caroline Allman faked a tag, then headed for home. Impact Gold’s center fielder sent and errant throw to home plate and Allman scored to give Sorcerer the walk-off run.

Olivia Silvestre and Tai Wilson both had two hits and an RBI for Sorcerer.

Texas A&M-committed SS Kaydeun Wooley went 3 for 4 with two stolen bases and an RBI for Impact Gold. She also showed off amazing range and a great arm at SS.

Kelly Breen drew a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the seventh to give Athletics-Mercado/Angulo a 4-3 win over Firecrackers-Brashear/Lopez in the bottom of the seventh.

Angela Ramos went 3 for 4 with two runs, Breen went 1 for 2 with a run and two RBI, Alexis Guevara went 2 for 3 with an RBI for the Athletics and Amari Harper went 2 for 4 with two RBI for the Firecrackers.

Rylee Holtorf, who went 3 for 4, connected on a walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the seventh to lead Mizuno Storm-Mathis to a 6-2 win over East Cobb Bullets-Mayfield in probably the most dramatic moment of the day.

In another extra-inning game, Corona Angels-Perez scored three runs in the top of the eighth and held on as the West Bay Warriors scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth to pull out a 5-4 victory.

Isabelle Jamgotchain had a two-run double and Catie Prado drove in a run with a ground out to provide the three runs for the Angels in the top of the eighth.

Georgia Impact-Fisher and CaliforniaBreeze-Birch also went extra innings with Impact scoring three runs in the top of the eighth and hanging on for an 8-6 victory over the Breeze. Aspen Calloway had an RBI single and Georgia-commit Jaydyn Goodwin had a two-run single to give the Impact the lead in the top of the eighth.

Southeast Intensity-KOD 7, Texas Bombers 5: Kassandra Machado went 2 for 4 with a double, a homer, two runs and two RBI, Malea Rolle went 2 for 3 with two triples, a run and an RBI, Tyrina Jones went 2 for 3 with a run and two RBI, Kirsten Caravaca went 2 for 3 with a double, a run and an RBI and Erin McGlothin went 2 for 3 with a run as the Intensity outslugged the Bombers.

South Dakota Renegades 11, Irvine Sting 3: Gabie McConnell went 3 for 4 with three runs, three stolen bases and an RBI, Summer Stoll drove in three runsAshton Dorman went 2 for 4 with a run, Liz Dierks went 2 for 3 with two runs, Abby Duchscherer went 1 for 4 with two runs scored and Emilee Boyer went 2 for 3 with two RBI and allowed one hit, no earned runs and struck out four in five innings to pick up the win for the Renegades.

Iowa Premier 12, Birmingham Thunderbolts ’03-Barron 7: Bella Dean went 3 for 5 with a homer, two runs and three RBI, McKenna Rebarcak went 3 for 4 with three RBI, Heidi Wheeler went 2 for 4 with three RBI, Margaret Tobias went 2 for 4 with three runs and Avery Carnahan went 2 for 4 with two runs to lead Iowa’s 15-hit attack.

OC Batbusters-Stith 7, California Suncats 1: Britney Moreno went 2 for 3 with two doubles, a run and two RBI to power the Batbusters.

Corona Angels-Tyson 7, Athletics-Mercado/Greg 1: Maryland-commit Kendall Mangel pitched a complete game and Angelina Allen singled and tripled as the Angels knocked off the Athletics.

OC Batbusters-Campbell 10, Impact Gold-Lang 2: Olivia Gigante had a huge game, belting two homers and driving in four runs and getting the win in the circle as the Batbusters run-ruled Impact Gold.

Diamond Sports Hotshots-Falterman 9, Beverly Bandits-Helbling 2: Louisiana Lafayette-commit Samantha Greater drilled a two-run homer and Madelyn Lopez went 2 for 3 with a double, a run and three RBI to lift the Hotshots, who broke a 2-2 tie with seven runs in the bottom of the fifth.

So Cal Choppers-Fausett 7, Beverly Bandits-Harkness 5: Rebekah Durazo belted a two-run homer, Rylee Pinedo had a bases-clearing single in the bottom of the sixth and Desiree Smith allowed one run, four hits, no wa walks and struck out four to pick up the victory for the Choppers.

Diamond Sports Hotshots-Nelson 7, Texas Blaze Futures 0: Kasidi Pickering went 2 for 4 with a double, two runs and three RBI and Oklahoma-commit Savannah Geurin tossed a three-hit shutout with no walks and seven strikeouts for the Hotshots.

Illinois Chill 5, Texas Blaze-Bonola 2: Kate Linkletter connected on a two-run bomb and Britney Lewinski went 3 for 3 with a double, a run and an RBI for the Chill.

PA Strikers 5, Oklahoma Athletics-Johnson 2: Brianna Peck and and Taylor Posner had three hits apiece, Acelynn Sellers went 2 for 4 with two runs and two RBI and Kayla Tauber and Morgan Fleming both went 2 for 3 with an RBI for the Strikers.
