It was a day of dramatics for Kevin O’Donnell’s Jersey Intensity at the So Cal A’s Invitational, a tournament that featured 19 PGF High School All-Americans and five Gatorade State Players of the Year, on Saturday at Harvard Park in Irvine.

The Intensity took Bill Conroy’s Beverly Bandits, the defending PGF 18U Premier national champions, to the limit in a 5-5 tie and they concluded pool play with a stunning 6-5 victory over the So Cal Choppers.

Georgia-bound Lacey Fincher smashed a two-run homer to left field to give the Intensity a 3-2 lead over the Bandits in the top of the third.

The Bandits came back with a three-run double off the fence in left field by Illinois Chicago-bound Tara McElligott for a 5-3 lead in the bottom of the third.

Michigan-bound Lexie Blaire, a PGF All-American who had three hits and two doubles, had an RBI double in the top of the fourth had an RBI double to right-center field to help the Intensity close the gap to 5-4.

Notre Dame-bound Quinn Biggio, the daughter of MLB Hall of Famer Craig Biggio, delivered an RBI single as the Intensity tied the Bandits, 5-5, in the top of the fifth.

The Bandits were down to their last ups in the bottom of the fifth due to the 90-minute time limit. Washington-bound Francesca Torraca ended up on second base in scoring position and tried to score on a single to right field. Intensity’s right fielder hit Biggio, who relayed a throw home to Boston College-bound catcher Gianna Boccagno, who made an athletic move to tag out Torraca to end the game.

The second game against the Choppers was even more dramatic after the Intensity fell behind, 5-0. Elon-bound Keagan Goldwait began the Intensity come back with an RBI double in the bottom of the fourth. Once again, with the time limit running out in the bottom of the fifth, the Intensity loaded the bases and Georgia-commit Jayda Kearney delivered a grand slam to left that tied it, 5-5. The very next batter, Fincher, who will be Kearney’s future teammate at Georgia, crushed a solo bomb to left field that gave Jersey the 6-5 victory.

Jersey faces the Irvine Sting in the first round of single-elimination bracket play on Sunday at Field 7 at 11:45 a.m.
