Orange County and the Inland Empire produce many of the top softball players in the nation year in and year out and the OC will have bragging rights over the IE once again after a 10-6 victory in the 15th Orange County vs. Inland Empire All-Star Game, which was presented by PGF, on Wednesday night at Big League Dreams in Chino Hills.

The OC has won seven of the past eight meetings and owns an 8-5-2 edge over the IE in the all-time series.

It looked like it was going to be the IE’s night after UAB-bound Sierra Frazier of Santiago of Corona drove in Ole Miss-bound Mikayla Allee of Norco with a single and Long Beach State-bound Maddy Ruffin of Roosevelt of Eastvale drove in Cal-bound Makena Smith of Murrieta Valley and Frazier with a double to the gap in left-center field to give the IE a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first.

Idaho State-bound Autumn Pease of Murrieta Mesa started for the IE and threw two perfect innings to start the game, but the OC jumped on her in the top of the third. Oregon-bound Allee Bunker of Huntington Beach singled and took third on an E-8 to lead off the inning. LSU-bound Karrington Houshmandzadeh of Los Alamitos slapped a chopper over the third baseman to drive in Bunker. UCLA-bound Kelli Godin of Mater Dei of Santa Ana, who had four hits, singled and Arizona State-bound Terra McGowan of Mission Viejo, doubled down the right-field line to drive in two runs and tie it, 3-3.

McGowan drove in Houshmandzadeh from third with a ground out to first in the top of the fifth to make it 4-0. McGowan said she is looking forward to moving on to the next level.

“Honestly, I love my high school and it’s been a great four years, but I’m ready for college,” McGowan said after the final high school game of her career. “It’s been a long run.”

Hawaii-signee Mikaela Mak of San Clemente added an RBI single in the top of the sixth before the OC exploded for five runs in the top of the seventh. USD-bound Kelli Kufta of Huntington Beach and Dartmouth-bound Kira La Scola of Orange Lutheran, who went 3 for 3, had RBI singles and Purdue-bound Nicole Siess of Rosary Academy of Fullerton tripled down the leftfield line and scored on a wild pitch to make it 10-3.

The IE picked up three runs in the bottom of the seventh on an RBI double by Cal-bound Alex Perez of Linfield Christian of Temecula and a two-run single by Long Island-bound Alyssa Martinez of Chino Hills to close the gap to 10-6.

San Jose State-bound Chrys Hildebrand of Esperanza of Anaheim relieved North Dakota State-bound Paige Vargas of Santa Margarita in the bottom of the third and pitched two scoreless innings. Long Island-bound Elena Valenzuela of La Habra relieved Hildebrand in the top of the fifth and pitched two scoreless innings to pick up the victory. Ohio University-bound Mackensie Kohl pitched the final three innings to record the save for the OC, which finished with 16 hits on offense.

The game featured three PGF High School All-Americans with Arkansas-bound Larissa Cesena of King of Riverside, Godin and Oregon-bound Jasmine Sievers of Capistrano Valley of Mission Viejo.
