Jazmyn Rollin was unable to help Explosion-Denio/Jackson get to the PGF 18U Premier national title game, but the Missouri-bound infiedler capped Week 1 of the PGF Nationals with some stellar hitting to help the West beat the East, 2-1, in the third PGF High School All-American Game on Friday night at Deanna Manning Stadium in Irvine, CA.

Rollin went 2 for 3 with a run scored and two RBI for the West, which owns a 2-1 edge over the East in the all-time series.

“I’m proud of my team (Explosion) for making it to PGF to compete against the best of the best and here (the PGF All-American Game) to compete against girls that I’m going to see in the SEC and Pac-12 was an amazing to play against them and with them,” Rollin said. “It was a really fun and enjoyable experience.”

Arkansas-bound Larissa Cesena and singled, Tennessee-bound Ally Shipman walked and both eventually scored on Rollin’s two-run single in the bottom of the first to stake the West to a 2-0 lead.

The East got two runs back in the top of the third when Iowa State-bound Kasey Simpson walked, Ole Miss-bound Tate Whitley beat out an infield single and Texas A&M-bound Baylee Klingler’s grounder was misplayed by the shortstop allowing both Simpson and Whitley to score to tie it, 2-2.

The West answered in the bottom of the third after Rollin led off with a single, Oregon-bound Jasmine Sievers sacrificed her to second and Florida-bound Brittany Allen drove her in with a single for a 3-2 lead. Utah-bound Ellessa Bonstrom doubled off the top of the fence in left field to drive in Allen for a 4-2 cushion.

UCLA-bound Megan Faraimo started the game for the West and allowed one hit in two scoreless innings, the East got its two unearned runs off Texas-bound Shea O’Leary, Northwestern-bound Danielle Williams allowed two hits, struck out two in two innings of work to record the win and Arizona-bound Marissa Schuld pitched two perfect innings with three strikeouts to close out the game and pick up the save.

“It was fun and PGF runs a really good tournament, probably the best in the nation,” Schuld said. ” Our team (Oro Valley Suncats) didn’t finish as well as we wanted to, but it was just an unforgettable experience and it’s a family forever.”

Jennie Finch, Natasha Watley and Toni Mascarenas were the coaches for the West and Jennie Ritter, Crstyl Bustos and Suzy Brazney coached the East.
