The So Cal A’s Invitational… A warm up for the PGF National Championships

With school out for summer, it’s time for some much needed vacation. Trips all around the country and the world and for the people in the west coast, many stops to the beach.

For the ladies of summer, it’s time to travel and play the best softball teams in the world.

The 9th Annual So Cal Athletics Invitational brings the nations best teams to Irvine on June 14th through June 16th at Harvard Athletic Park.

With many softball tournaments around Orange County this weekend, this one is the main event. Admission is Free.

While the Invitational has its own prestige, it also is prep work for the National Championship next month.

“The So Cal Athletic Invitational is a warm up for the PGF National Championships,” So Cal Athletics President Bruce Richardson said. “It consists of 15 of the best teams in the country for the past nine years.”

The Invitational will be headlined by powerhouse teams like the Georgia Impact-Lewis, Beverly Bandits-Tyrell, Birmingham Thunderbolts-Thompson, Corona Angels-Tyson, So Cal Choppers-Faucett, CA Cruisers-Sievers, Demarini Aces-Taylor, Explosion-Jackson, Irvine Sting-Ota, PA Chaos-Spina, Sorcerer Old Skool-Sparrey/Aguayo, Texas Glory-Shelton, USA Athletics Gold-Rogers, So Cal Athletics-Richardson and NJ Intensity-Odonnell.

Even if you don’t win this Invitational, it prepares you for the next big tournament in Irvine in late July, just like the defending 18U PGF Premier National Champions, Georgia Impact.

“We tried to get the best competition before Nationals,” Richardson said. “It has always been the best competition for the summer with the best players from around the country. There is no other tournament like this besides PGF. The winner of the PGF Nationals always comes to this tournament. You feel pretty good if you just come out even.”

The Invitational begins on Friday June 14th with pool play from the three groups starting with the 10:00am games which include; So Cal Athletics against Demarini Aces, Corona Angels against PA Chaos and NJ Intensity against CA Cruisers.

Pool play will continue on Saturday with single elimination beginning Saturday evening and a champion being crowned on Sunday.

All 15 teams in this Invitational will bring their experience from this tournament back to the same city for PGF Nationals. Like PGF, the So Cal Athletics Invitational has stayed at the top for many years.

“PGF has specialized in putting on interactive events,” PGF President and CEO Dan Hay said. “For the players, coaches and their families and done right, for many years.”

With top teams coming to Irvine, it brings top players along with them like Washington-commit P/INF Kelley Lynch and Florida bound C Julia Cottrill, both from Georgia Impact and both of the nations top players from the class of 2019.

Other top players include OF/P Kiki Milloy (Tennessee), P/1B Sydney Supple (Northwestern), INF/P Ariel Carlson (Oregon), OF Lexi Voss (Oregon), INF Brooke Marquez (Notre Dame), OF Jaylin Calvert (Auburn), C/3B Ashley Schultz (Northwestern), all from the Beverly Bandits.
