St. Margaret’s has hired Joaquin Acosta as its new girls volleyball coach. Acosta comes in with a nice resume, including All-American Honors and a NCAA Championship at Bringham Young University. Acosta also was an international professional in volleyball in the indoor and the beach circuits.

“Coach Acosta has a proven track record at every possible level of the sport,” Tartans athletic director Pat Bendzick said in a press release, “From coaching youth programs, to his time on the Puerto Rican National Team, Coach Acosta has amassed a level of experience not often found at the high school level. We are fortunate to have someone of his caliber join our staff and look forward to having him share his tremendous knowledge of the game with our student-athletes.”

St. Margaret’s went 25-5 and finished second next to Sage Hill in the Academy League with a 10-2 league record last season. The Tartans were also CIF-Southern Section Division 3AA Finalists, losing to league foe Sage Hill.
