Water Polo: San Juan Hills Names New Coach

Ivan Buich has been named the boys’ and girls’ water polo coach at San Juan Hills, according to athletic director Armando Gonzalez.

Buich was exposed to the game at a young age, according to the school. His family was originally from Croatia, where water polo is the national sport. He played water polo in high school in Marin County and continued his playing career at Golden West College where he helped lead the program to a conference championship in 2006. After a couple of years of playing professionally overseas, he returned to the United States and began his coaching career.

Most recently, he was an assistant for both boys and girls programs at Santa Margarita Catholic. During his tenure there, he was part of a back-to-back CIF Southern Section championship girls program and a boys program that was consistently ranked in the top 10 in CIF.

In a short period of time he has coached a number of current and former Division 1 college athletes and has gained experience with athletes of all ages. He is on staff at the Orange County Water Polo Club and serves as head caoch of the 16U Boys team.
